Events: Where to Race or Ride This Weekend

It’s Friday and for many of us it means the end of the week and time to decompress. One of the best ways to do this is throw a leg over your ATV or get behind the wheel of your SxS. Here is a small list of events going down this weekend for you to either participate in or just show your excitement by spectating. If you promote or know of any events coming up that you’d like to see on our site and event calendar, feel free to let us know by emailing us at and put Events in the subject title.

29th Bud Light SCORE San Felipe 250, Jan. 22-25 in San Felipe, Baja California, Mexico

Who’s ready to head south of the border and see the worlds fastest desert racers blaze across 250 miles of the deepest whoops in Baja? The first event of the series is the one of the shortest and also known as one of the most grueling for riders, drivers and their machines. Last year Mark Burnett won this event in his Can-Am Maverick 1000 and ended up winning the Class 19 Championship after continuing the season with solid finishes or wins. Now a member of the Polaris RZR family, will he stay on top? There’s a long list of competitors looking to be #1 in this class and names like Derek Murray, Matt Parks, Johnny Angal and Corry Sappington pose a serious threat.

In the Pro ATV class, the 1A of Javier Robles also kicked off the 2014 season with a win in San Felipe and finished his season right where he started by securing the Championship. He’s got a great team, which includes WORCS Pro Josh Row, who knows their way through the harsh Baja terrain and definitely stands to start the 2015 season where he left off.

Round #1 Sunday January 25th @ Glen Helen Raceway

The West Coast MX season also starts this season with Round 1 of the STI Quad X & UTV Racing Series presented by Yamaha at Glen Helen Raceway in Devore, CA. Last year’s Pro Champion and Yamaha backed racer, Dustin Nelson, has hung up his riding gear to pursue a career in short course truck racing so it’s up in the air to see who will be king in 2015. We’ve seen Beau Baron and David Haagsma battle it out on the track as well as other West Coast Pro riders like Garrin Fuller and Robbie Mitchell. Could these be any of the racers we’ll see at the top of the podium this weekend?

If you’re looking to get on the track yourself, there are numerous classes to enter in for every age and skill level. There are even multiple classes for the ever growing number of SxS racers. No memberships are required but kill switches and nerf bars are a must for ATVs.

Round 1 January 24/25 2015 – Johnson Valley OHV – Lucerne Valley, Ca
Hosted by Desert MC

If you’re looking for Baja action without having to travel south of the border then head out to Johnson Valley OHV in Lucerne Valley, CA for the first round of the AMA National Hare and Hound series. The 2014 ATV Expert Champion Colt Brinkerhoff will be running the #1 plate in the first ever ATV Pro class for this series. There is racing all weekend but Pro ATVs and bikes are the spotlight for racing on Sunday and the start banner drops at 9:30. For a full season schedule, class list and requirements, click here.
